Aachen & Tilburg

Leaving Andrew to Grandfather duties I headed off for 2 nights to Aachen, in Germany just on the border with the Netherlands and Belgium, and then on to Tilburg in the Netherlands – about 90 minutes by train.

It was nice to be back in Aachen where I had lived for a year in 2004.  It snowed and I also visited the Lindt factory chocolate outlet shop and a local gingerbread (Printen) factory

Then back to Tilburg to visit my friend Suzette and her daughter Tina.  In a piece of bad timing Jan Willem was off to a conference in Milan.  But I did get a special visit to his workplace, the Textile Museum, a good display of the old and the new aspects of what was once the “Wool capital of the Netherlands”.  The Museum is an operational studio and also takes on commissions such a recent large tapestry weaving for the refurbishment of the Rothschild bank in London
