Normandy to Voutenay: Wednesday 8th April 2009

Today was primarily a driving day – we needed to cover 490km to Voutenay down in Burgundy.

To break the journey we first stopped in Le Mans which had a very impressive cathedral and a well preserved old town

We had a second stop in Auxerre, which surprised us with little architectural gems.

And the beauty of travelling by car means we can go down country roads and stop when we want. Driving along we saw a house that stood out on the edge of a village due to it's roofing tiles

We found Margaret and Brian’s easily from the directions they had given. Our GPS however didn’t really know the tiny village of Voutenay (pop. 189) and had sent us to a junction 6km from the actual village. We had a lovely evening of conversation, wine and a lovely meal which Margaret had prepared.
