Beaune to Bern: Saturday 11th April 2009z

Another driving day – it’s been one of those moving about weeks and we are looking forward to three weeks in one place when we go to France after the wedding.

An easy 3 hour motorway drive to Bern. We dropped the car and wandered around the town.

Andrew in front of the clock tower; and the view of the river from the park outside the cathedral

The town was in a relaxed mood with people on Easter break. We had a beer at a restaurant near the bear pit – Altes Tramdepot –it’s a brewery and restaurant http://www.altestramdepot.ch/htm/e_home.htm .

View from beside the Altes Tramdepot

Tourists at the bear pit - the bear is the symbol of Bern

We went to the hotel and decided as there was nothing around the hotel to eat at Altes Tramdepot. We sat out on the terrace and had a lovely meal. The only downside of Switzerland is that it is still permissible to smoke in restaurants. It seems at odds with the Swiss image of order and sensibleness!
